Wow, Wednesday is the last day of summer. Where did it go?
I'm counting our blessings, as we have been able to meet in person at The Guild all summer. Many, many clubs are still Zooming, or doing hybrid meetings.
I had a call today from a member of a Florida Rotary Club. He got my number from our website, but somehow didn't notice that we are in Colorado! He was looking for the Englewood, Florida, club. It happens a couple times a year. Given Florida's spike in Covid, they're still doing hybrid.
The Guild venue has been great, and we are very appreciative of the hospitality from Lynette, manager of The Guild. And we're actually in Englewood!
Aaaand, we've had delicious lunches from Gourmet for Good, a great caterer found for us by Linda J.
We have a good line-up of speakers. This week it's our Honorary Member Larry Matten, an attorney, who will be enlightening us about will substitutes. We'll have our new Police Chief Sam Watson on Oct. 6, School Superintendent Wendy Rubin on Oct. 13, and Police Sgt. Reid McGrath on Oct. 20.
In November we look forward to hosting Abraham Lincoln around the anniversary of the Gettysburg Address (Nov. 19, 1863). Bruce will play a part (little pun). Abe will share the speaker role with our District Governor Ray Anderson. Ray will have presented his "Governor's Address" to a lot of clubs by then. I figured he would need a little change-up. He's game.
I hope you'll get these dates on your calendars and consider inviting a guest. Guest meals are $15.
NEXT WEEK: We'll have Happy Hour at Glory Weisberg's home, 6189 S. Jamaica Court, Englewood 80111. From 6 to 8. Glory is planning to have catering from Bono's Pit Bar-BQ. We all enjoyed their spread at our Presidents Picnic in June. The picnic that went indoors because of rain.
We want good weather so we can enjoy the garden that Glory's late husband Dave so lovingly created and she has worked so hard to maintain.
One more thing to note: WE HAVE A BOARD MEETING THIS WEEK. It should be short, but we have at least two items of great import -- 1) how we plan to spend our Foundation funds during this Rotary year. A committee of Susan, Bruce and Vee has a proposal. 2) We'll vote on inviting a new member into the club!
That's it for me. See you tomorrow, Patty
