Message from
President Gary
Hi, Fellow Rotarians! I look forward to seeing you on Zoom at this Wednesday’s meeting, starting at 1 pm.
It was great to see our Club members last week and to hear about some nice events that have been happening in our lives. I know that we all miss the informality of physically meeting together, but I am very happy to see that we are safe and still living our lives in the best manner possible.
This week, we will be starting at a few minutes after 1 p.m. with our Rotarian and City Manager Shawn Lewis providing a 20-minute update of activities and issues in Englewood regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. Shawn has one of the most challenging jobs in Englewood, and I know he will provide some very important information for us all.
Shawn has another meeting at 1:30, so he will be leaving our meeting after his 20-minute discussion. At about 1:30 I look forward to “Happy Bucks” and updates about future meetings, projects, etc.
I believe that we will be done with our regular meeting and will start our Board meeting by 1:45. All members are welcome to attend the Board meeting to hear reports, discussions about future meetings and other issues to be addressed by the Board.
Lastly, one of the issues that I ask you all to help with is in finding future speakers who would be willing to address the Club over Zoom. For future meetings, I know we are looking forward to a fun Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour via Zoom on April 29 (thank you, Linda and Bruce), and in addition, I am working with Mendhi Audin with District 5450 for her presentation on “Embracing Change When the Old Days Don’t Work,” for our May 4 meeting
But we need speakers for our other May meetings. Hopefully, by early June, we may be able to return to a meeting location and resume a more normal schedule.
It has also been suggested that we resume some classification talks from new and existing members, and I hope to include these talks into our program.
If you have any thoughts and access to interesting speakers for future meetings, please let me know. I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
-- Gary
Update on David Lee
David remains at Swedish Hospital. He was tested for the virus again yesterday, and the test was still positive. He is weak, and Pam worries that he's not eating.
However, he is needing less oxygen. So it's a mixed report.
Send those prayers to David, Pam and their families, please. -- Patty
Our grant was approved!
Whoo-hoo! The District approved our application for matching money to buy a generator for the small hospital in Bangladesh that we have supported for a number of years.
Matin funded a chunk of our side, the biggest sum comes from the sale of an older ambulance at the hospital, and then our Englewood Foundation contributed. The total cost of the project is $10,000 -- a very good deed.
