Four-score and four years ago. . .The Rotary Club of Englewood was chartered!! Ha, ha. 1937.
Of course, the words "four score and seven years ago" were Abraham Lincoln's start to the famous Gettysburg Address, delivered on Nov. 19, 1863. He was referring to the signing of the Declaration of Independence as he spoke at the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on the battlefield where Union armies had defeated those of the Confederacy.
We'll be hearing that address from our very own Abraham Lincoln on Wednesday. Bruce is such an extraordinary look-alike and accomplished Lincoln historian that I wanted everyone to enjoy his presentation.
He will talk about how he became Abe -- great story! And will deliver the Gettyburg Address and Lincoln's Thanksgiving Address. Thankfully, that president was quite succinct.
Bruce appeared as Lincoln before one of Bob's journalism classes at Arapahoe Community College some years ago. The students then asked questions as if in a press conference. It was such fun.
This will be a very special meeting. Our District Governor Ray Anderson shares the billing with Lincoln and will speak to us about District 5450 as it emerges from the Covid Era and some of the exciting things happening around the district.
And then, you already know about the great menu! We have a lot to be thankful about!
