Our Community Outreach

We had a booth at the Aging Well Expo at the Malley Center. We shared the Club's story with participants and guests. Elizabeth, Patty and Chris represented us. Square dancers supplied some fun entertainment.

Good Advice for Staying Strong

Dr. Matt Pennetti presented a program on how seniors can stay strong and avoid falls. He demonstrated three important exercises to practice daily. Dr. Pennetti is a chiropractor with an office in Littleton.

Movement 5280 on its programs for youth who are unhoused or at risk of being unhoused

Kathleen Pierz shared the wonderful story of Shelter Box. She is a longtime ambassador and organizer for this amazing program that provides emergency shelter to families who have lost their homes to disaster, enabling them to rebuild their lives. All over the world.

Members of our club felt strongly that we should again support Shelter Box financially and voted to donate $250 this year and the next two years.

OUR PRESIDENT VOLUNTEERED!

President Elizabeth served as a judge at the Continental Divide Challenge, a speech and debate program for home-schooled students, which took place in Highlands Ranch.

Elizabeth judged an Impromptu session on Thursday, March 19. Each student chose a card to speak about, was given 2 minutes to prepare and then presented a speech about the subject. Nine students competed. The organization reached out to the greater community for judges, and Elizabeth answered the call.

We supported our partner club Denver Metro South, collecting food for Family Tree, which helps women and children with shelter and many social services.

Burritos for a good cause!

Here we are: The Burrito Team! We're Englewood Rotarians plus two good friends in the Cafe 180 kitchen.

Our task was to prepare burritos that could be frozen and then unfrozen and served to people who are sheltered from the cold and snow when bad weather might arrive. Movement 5280 in Englewood serves as a shelter on severe weather nights. Our burritos went to Movement 5280.

Cafe 180 is a nonprofit restaurant that serves pay-what-you-can meals and helps other nonprofits in the community with various food needs. Like ours this night. We made a contribution to Cafe 180 for the privilege of working in their kitchen. We're looking pretty serious in this photo, but it was great fun. Debra, in the center, tossed those tortillas like Frisbees to the burrito folders. A little silliness in our effort.

One surprise: Our 95 burritos were needed the very next day. The cold weather came soon.

Our gifts make a difference

We love Englewood Schools, and when grants coordinator Amie Redding offered us a cafeteria of amazing choices we might support, here's what we chose:

Lego League Robotics -- our donation will help buy supplies and/or help pay for travel
Culinary Arts competition -- our donation will help pay for food used in trial runs --Here's what they prepared: top left, ceviche; tacos with bison ribeye and jicama slaw, churros with peach sauce. Yum!
College exploration -- our donation will help students from Englewood High and Colorado's Finest High School of Choice visit colleges and trade schools so they make choices that work for them
